Gaps 04:15
Holding on to what you want to keep, So close that you can't breathe. I apologize for what I say, I'm trying to hide and run away oh. Something's got you by the throat, You can't be sure that you don't want it, To cut the air from where you need it. It's so much easier I know. Holding on to who you think you need, To keep your arms up in your sleeves, And your head tight upon your neck, And your heart beat-beating in your chest. Something's got you by the throat, You can't be sure that you don't want it, To cut the air from where you need it. It's so much easier I know. Because sometimes beating ain't neat, I'm needing something more. Surely this aint it. I'm getting tired of all that, Breaking my back just to follow in the tracks. Oh this aint living, I'm dying to get it over with. Holding on to who you think you need, To keep those arms up in those sleeves, And your head ti-ti-tight upon your neck, And your heart beat-beating in your chest. Because sometimes beating ain't neat, I'm needing something more. Surely this aint it. I'm getting tired of all that, Breaking my back just to follow in the tracks. Oh this aint living, I'm dying to get it over with.

Ba-da 03:42
Beat me in the streets, In towns and big cities, I know to watch my back. I bleed the same shade of red that's in your heart and in your head, But I won't bleed no more. It's in pieces. And I won't bleed no more, (No I won't, no I wont) Coz I can't fit these scars. (Yeah I know, yeah I know) Pulling down the past. (burning bones, burning bones) Cause I won't bleed no more. See me in your mind cause I can't be strong all the time, Sometimes I need a friend. I'll be by your side to fight for what is right, Like you did for me back then. It's in pieces. And I won't bleed no more, (No I won't, no I wont) Coz I can't fit these scars. (Yeah I know, yeah I know) Pulling down the past. (burning bones, burning bones) Cause I won't bleed no more.

I’ve never been more alone than I am here in your bed The rays of sun caress the place you kissed me when you left I thought that you’d have called by now so I think the time is right To grab my shirt and phone and leave my keys somewhere outside And head on home At least there’s no one there to make me feel alone There’s days I think where’s my hand going to reach to when I stumble down? Passing by the hillside taking count of all the leaves Floating down from branches leaving rows of naked trees I can’t help feel the feeling that the signs have been around I never seem to notice ‘til all mine have hit the ground And I’m heading home Where the dim light guides my way to bed alone There’s days I think where’s my hand going to reach to when I stumble down? There’s days I think who’ll I scream to when I’m breaking down? How many god damn days went by, That I asked why did I fall in love with you? It seemed like such a hole we were in, But neither had the balls to cave it in All I’ve got Is just another lonely night for me alone There’s days I think where’s my hand going to reach to when I stumble down? There’s days I think who’ll I scream to when I’m breaking down? I’ve never been more alone than I am here in your bed The rays of sun caress the place you kissed me when you left

You never know just what you know ‘til it’s too late. Isn’t that the case. I’d have never tried if I’d have known my luck had died. But every single time you turn away. Will you ever leave me? Don’t you think that if I could I would. I’m looking for a chance, But in the apple of your eye, I’ll never see the end of this. I’m looking for a chance to get out but I can’t. Your eyes they shine a skylike shade of blue, And so often I stare. So unprepared, so tangled in your hair. But every single time you turn away. Will you ever leave me? Don’t you think that if I could I would. I’m looking for a chance, But in the apple of your eye, I’ll never see the end of this. I’m looking for a chance to get out but I can’t.

I can't hold this extra weight. I've been folding on yesterday and the day before that. Guess im just seeing how long it takes, Waiting for something inside me to break. Maybe I'm stronger than before. Building resistance every time I close the door and bolt it up. Building the walls a million foot tall. I keep on the inside and let nothing in and nothing out at all. I know that you are, With me at heart. I can't lose this memory Because it's burnt upon my brain, Scalding everything. You know I fix my walls when they come down But it's getting too much for just one man. I know that you are, With me at heart. I know that you are, With me at heart. I know that you are, With me at heart.

Mama 02:57
I got less than a buck in my savings account, For not the first time this year. I make bad decisions and boy do I pay for ‘em, I damn can’t afford to stay here. I wait for the day this guitar’s gonna pay, You all back for all that you’ve done. I’ve got less than a buck in my savings account, For not the last time this month. But it’s gonna be alright cause mama’s gonna bail me, Mama’s gonna bail me out. I like the taste of whiskey in a fine restaurant, And I like to take you on the town. But that might get tricky ‘cause I stacked my twenties, On the shitty hand that I just threw down. I’ll stand by the side of the road with a sign, And I’ll sing all my songs to the cars going by. But it’s gonna be alright cause mama’s gonna bail me, Mama’s gonna bail me out again, Mama’s gonna bail me out. But it’s gonna be alright cause mama’s gonna bail me, Mama’s gonna bail me out again, Mama’s gonna bail me out one more time said, Mama, she’s gonna bail me out.
7.
Is it wrong to be in front of you, With someone else in mind? Nothing ‘bout tonight, my head just ain’t right, Guess I got some thinking to do. I don’t want to be with a memory, I’m trying to cut it loose. You’re touching me just fine, I’m just in my mind. Guess I got some faking to do. And if I try to exercise my heart it’ll start to break. I can’t let this be just a memory, Not someone quite like you. I’m trying to escape the choices I’ve made, Guess I got some thinking to do.

Ring of Fire 03:06
Love is a burning thing And it makes a fiery ring. Bound by wild desire I fell into a ring of fire. I fell into a burning ring of fire, I went down, down, down and the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns, The ring of fire, the ring of fire. The taste of love is sweet When hearts like ours meet. I fell for you like a child, Oh, but the fire went wild. I fell into a burning ring of fire, I went down, down, down and the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns, The ring of fire, the ring of fire. I fell into a burning ring of fire, I went down, down, down as the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns, The ring of fire, the ring of fire. And it burns, burns, burns, The ring of fire, the ring of fire, The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

Old Man Jack 02:48
If you find yourself in the need of a drink, But not the kind you get from the sink. There’s just one man who leads the case Who leads you to the soggy state He’s cold as ice and rough as the taste Of that clear moonshine sitting at your place Rusty eyed and dressed in the black In the only damn place he goes. It pays to know Old Man Jack, He’ll be sitting at the counter at the whiskey shack, Oh he’s a friend of a friend of mine. But why? Cause if you know Old Man Jack, You’ll be sipping fine whiskey ‘til the sun comes back. But if you don’t, but if you don’t Buddy you’re staying dry. Gimme some water. I gotta go home now. You’ve gotta call me a cab. I gotta go to my girlfriend’s house. She’s gonna be a mighty mad. I’m gonna have to deal with that. I gotta go right now. It pays to know Old Man Jack, He’ll be sitting at the counter at the whiskey shack, Oh he’s a friend of a friend of mine. But why? Cause if you know Old Man Jack, You’ll be sipping fine whiskey ‘til the sun comes back. But if you don’t, but if you don’t Buddy you’re staying, Buddy you're staying dry.

Crawl Back 05:25
I won't need you where I'm going, 'Cause the light's not quite as low. You'll be waiting by the door, For me to crawl back home. I won't let you shed a tear, No, not for me I won't. Lately the air is colder out It makes you madder, When things don't matter. If we shared the love of one, We'd be losing minds. And if we held a crying son, I'd pack my things and go. But not in shame or lack of trust, But fear of fucking up. And I'm not sad to see you go, Bleeding out again.

about

'Naked Trees' is a collection of 10 songs that have helped shape the sound of The Bean Project over the last 3 years. Graduating from duo to 5-piece band, The Bean Project's debut album documents the development of their brass-folk sound moving into 2017 and beyond.

Inspired by the naked trees it is named after, the production took a no frills, no gimmicks, straight forward approach, using great microphones to record great performances. The woody richness of the acoustic instruments was masterfully preserved by David Carr at Rangemaster. The old church turned recording studio overlooks the rolling tulip fields of The Patch, and the album was recorded surrounded by the trees of the Dandenong Ranges as is tradition for The Bean Project.

The album sways from big groovy numbers such as ‘Gaps’ to tear-jerking singer-songwriter ballads such as ‘Never Been More Alone’ with flavours of jazz, country, pop and folk.
